CALEDONIAN BOWLING CLUB.

There were about forty members present at the annual meeting of the Caledonian Bowling Club in the Shamrock Hotel last night, Mr Dawson being in the chair. Mr C. F. Greenslade' (patron of the club) was present, as also was Mr J. M. Taylor (Canterbury Club) as a guest. The annual report contained the following clauses:— -Your Committee, in presenting their annual report of the year's doings, regret that they are unable to lay before the meeting suck a flattering account as they have been wont to do in former years. This is accounted for principally by the very unpleasant and inclement reason, the wet Saturdays week after week having pnt a regular damper on the members, and they did not seem to enter into the game with the same spirit as of yore. The matches, as f fixed by the Association, with other clubs were duly played, and the club had a decent proportion of wins, vet not "so many as in former years or as the best friends of the club could have wished. The winners of the various club prizes are: Mr Dawson's prizes (doublehanded) —G. Wedderspbon and A. M'Gregor 1, J. Cowie and W. Mayo 2; Mr Greenslade's prizes (single-handed)—S. Davis 1, J. Cowie 2; Mr Kirby's (senior vice-president) prize—A. M'Gregor 1, W. Mukison (presented by secretary and treasurer) 2; Mr Blaney's prize (for young playerr), A. M'Gregor; Mr M'Kenzie's prize—J. Cowie 1, G. Capstick 2; Mr Hancock's prize, G. Wedderspoon; champion bowls (presented by Messrs Coughlan), Mr Kirbv ; club's double-handed prize, J. and G. Wedderspoon; Mr Collins's prize—J. Cowie 1, J. C. Abemethy 2 (presented by Mr Capstick, junior vice-presi-dent). The annual tournament was held in Dunedin in Jairaary'larf, and r as"onr'worthy ; patron is president of the Bowling Association this year the greater part of the contents were held on our green. In the various competitions our members were not too successful, Mr John Evans and Mr Bewley, of the Milton Club were mates), gaining second prize in the doTblehawled competition, whilst Mr Gregor Wedderspoon's rink was fourth in the rink contest.

Mention must not be omitted in this report of the new pavilion which has been erected within the grounds by the splendid liberality of Messrs Greenslade and Dawson. It was finished in time for the tournament, and was fitly hanselled bv the president of the Association with his Visual generous hospitality. The club and bowlers in general in this part of New Zealand are under great obligations to Messrs Greenslade and Dawson, which can never be fitly repaid. The pavilion has also been suitably furnished by these gentlemen and other members of the clab. The Committee.also recorded with regret the deaths of Messrs Morrison, H. M'Cutcheon, J. Parker, and Callender, and sympathised with Mr J. Roberts in the loss of his wife.

The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said that the club were in a very good position; indeed, they were better off than they had ever been before. The -weather had certainly done a great deal to hinder them from doing -well in their contests, for members had had little or no practice -whatever. Taking everything into consideration, they had reason to congratulate themselves on the position of affairs, and he hoped that in the coming season they -would be able to be more successful in the inter-club contests. The club had suffered the loss of some valued members, including Mr Morrison, and their deaths were all deeply deplored. The club h;id every prospect; of a successful season, the green being in good order, thanks to the caretaker and Mr Wedderspoon (superintendent). —Mr Kirby seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.

The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2 9s Bd. There -was a balance from last year of 14s lid, nibscriptions amounted to £9O los, and entry moneys £ll lis. the total receipts being £IOB 4 sd. • The expenditure anounted to £lO5 14s 9d. The balance-sheet was also approved. Mr W. C. Allnctt (president of the Roslyn Bowling Club) sent for the consideration of the club the following questions:—"Do you consider it wise and desirable to continue accumulating a large reserve fund? (present amount is unknown to bowlers; probably £120). Are you in favor of creating more prizes, and those of greater value than formerly? Should the entrance fees for various competitions be reduced? Would the club uphold the establishment by the Association during the annual tournament of the following social scheme:—Friendly rink match among all members of fifty years and over, and lunch for snch players only, to be.at 1 p.m., and game or games after (this game, could supplant the ladies' day rink match —the social benefit* are obvious)? Are you in favor of the establishment of a special annual fixture, to be called the "champion of the champion contest," in which all those who have. won the . single-handed competition of their club for the current season meet on a chosen green at a stated date, to play for the Association prize t>f, say, £5 5s to £lO 10s?"—The Chairman thought that the matter -was ■ one for the As ociation, but the incoming Committee might consider the matter and reply, and aho instruct the club delegates to bring the nutter before the Association.—Mr A. Smith and Mr Caps tick seconded a motion to that effect.

The following officers were elected: — Mr W. Dawson (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. A. Kirby and J. Wed-dei-spoon; hon. secretary, Mr T. R. Dodds; hon. treasurer, Mr J. Roberts;' auditors/ Messrs A. Smith and W. 4T/Le«d •'
