MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The Boslyn branch of the United Temperance Reform Council held a meeting on Tuesday evening in the Council Chambers, Boslyn, when Mr M. W. Green gave an address on the action of alcohol upon the human system. At the close of the address Mr Green was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. Captain Stewart moved and Mr Vincent seconded the following resolution: —‘‘That after hearing Mr Green’s address, this meeting is of the opinion that there is an imperative necessity for the teaching <jf science concerning the action of alcohol upon the human system to be given to the children in the public schools; and candidates at tho forthcoming elections should >he asked to use their influence to have such teaching imparted.” This was carried unanimously.

Tho half-vearly meeting for the elect’on and installation of officers of the Royal Oak Lodge, U.A 0.D., wa« hold in the lodge room, Caver'ham, on Monday evening, and resulted as fol’ows:—J.P.A., Bro. R/Lindsay; Arch Druid, Bro. B. C. Lowry; V.A. Druid. Bro. H. Rackley; secretary, Bro. A. Mitchell (re-elected); treasurer.’ Bro. R. Logie; A.D. Bards, Bros. E. Quarter-man and H. Shaw; V.A. Bards, Bros. H. Brook and W. Hudson ; I.'G., Bro’ B. Spence; 0.G., Bro. J. Robertson. The balance-sheet and auditors’ report were adopted. These showed the funds to be steadTy increasing. The officers were installed in their respective chairs by D.P Bro. Oldenberg, assisted bv P.D.P. Bro Orchard. Receipts, £l3 14s 3d.
