MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, July 10. The _ Conference this morning passed a resolution representing to Government that the representation of contributing local authorities on hospital and charitable aid boards is inadequate, and also that the expenditure of councils in equipping and maintaining fire, police, and salvage corps should be legalised. A proposal for a scheme of guarantee and superannuation of municipal officers was referred to the Executive Committee to report at the next Conference. It was resolved that the Government be asked to introduce a Bill applying the betterment principle to all boroughs. The Committee appointed to report as to the height of buildings recommended that the height of any building hereafter erected shall not exceed 90ft in streets 99ft or more wide; in streets, etc., less than 99ft wide snch buildings shall not exceed 66ft. The report, which was adopted, also suggested various precautions against fire.
