THE LATE TROOPER GILLIES.

The news of the death of Trooper Hugh C. Gillies, in South Africa, has been received with profound regret in the Raven*bourne district, whence ha left to Job the contingent. Gillies was born in Raven.-oourne, and educated at the local school. He took paid in the various sports of the pine-, and was a member of the boatinn civ %m he went away. He had beer, closely connected with the Presbyterian Church and Sunday school during ms residence in the district, and having been possessed of fine elocutionary powers had often assisted at local entertainments for oil classes of objects. He was a young man who could ill bs spared, and his memory Will be cherished by many of the past and present i'e«i'hnts of Ravensbourne. His mother died some time ago, after a long illness, and only recently his fatherpassed «wny as the result of an accident. The utmost sympathy is felt for the remaining members of the family in this their further bei'enrument.
