PORT CHALMERS SAILING CLUB

Although there was a strong breeze and a heavy sea on Saturday the members of the Port Chalmers iSaiiug Club he.d a cup race over the lower course. Eight boats started, and the match was well contested, the result being as follows; Daisy, scratch (lime, Lh 32xnin 53. Ec), 1; Hornet, 2min (time, Ih S6min 40sec), 2; Shamrock, scratch (time, lb 35miu 15$tc) } 3. During Saturday the club’s colors were at halimast as a mark of regret for their late members, Archie M'Gormack and Char.es Brown, the victims of the recent drowning accident at the Htads.

BAVENSBOURNE LOCAL CHALLENGE CUP. The race for the Challenge Cup presented by Mr T. Ross took place at Raveusbourne on Saturday. The two-reefed breeze suited tho yachts admirably, but was rather strong for the open boats. The Lennox Lass got the best of the start, closely followed by Rambler and Dream. Carbine had her staysail blown to pieces at the start, and did not fake part in the race. The Lennox Lass, nicely bandied, had the misfortune to get stuck when holding a good position in the race, and did not finish till very late. Seven bouts faced the starter, the result being as follows: —Rambler (4min) 1, Raia (llmin) 2, Dream (8m n) 3, Volunteer (6min) 4. The Committee desire to thank the following gentlemen for officiating during the race: —0.Y.0. handicappers, Messrs T, Ross, 0. Fe’lett. and W. Weller (judges), Mr W. Barker (starter), and Mr EL E, Moller (timekeeper). Djin Djin was scratched this afternoon for the Dur*din Cup. Lane, Cavill, and Read, of New South Wales, and Gailey, of Queensland, the

representatives for the Wanganui Swimming Championships, are passengers by the Westralia.
