The State revenue for seven months, including the sum of one million three hundred and thirty-three thousand, returns from the Commonwealth, totalled six million seven hundred ard' eighty-four thousand pounds, being an increase of eight dred and thirty-three thousand returned compared with the same period of last year. The Federal Tariff contributed four hnv■dred and thirty-four thousand of this increase. The Premier claims that the balance is an actual increase in the earning power of the State. The expenditure (including the Commonwealth was six million nine hundred and fifty-eight thousand pounds, a comparative increase of six hundred thousand, of which sum the railways and tramways absorbed three hunckcd aryl fifty thousand, and the old age pensions two hundred ami twenty-six thousand pounds. The Australian Workers’ Union have authorised Mr MacDonnell, their general secretary', to visit brew ’/ e.'d'n vl to obtain the latest information on tiro working of the New Zealand Arbitration Art. The A.J.C. have decided to increase the added money next season by £5,000. The Metropolitan Stakes is raised to £2,000, the A.J.C. Derbv to £750. and for the ensuirp year to £I.OOO. Substantial increases are also matte in a number of other events.
