OTAGO HARBOR BOARD.
HON. H. GOURLEY RE-ELECTED
CHAIRMAN
A statutory meeting of the Otago Harbor ]~>\ird was held this afternoon for the purrose of electing a chairman for the next twelve montlis. The members present were t'-c Hans. H- Gourlev and D. Pmkerton, In-rare A- C Begg, J. Carroll, ,1. Cable, J. T. Maekerras, J. Thomson, T. Ross, J. Rcbin, and K G. Allen, M.HJU An apolojy for non-attendance was .«■• cttved from the Hon. Mr Fergus, who had gfiie out ->f town. The Secretary (Mr Rawstm) announced the appointments of Messrs Begg, Allen, Thomson, Cable, Maekerras, Pmkerton, Robin, and Roes as members of the Board. On nominations being called for (he office of chairman. Mr Maekerras said: Mr Rawson, I desire to propose that the Hon. Hugh Gourley be elected chairman of this Board for anc her periol. I have been associated with Mr Gonrley in various capacities as chairnan for nnny years, and can bear testiif.cny to the zeal and ability with which he has discharged the duties of that importai>t office. I ha v e not spoken to any member concerning ibis matter, but I am sure I am voicing the unanimous opinion of every jr. mber of this Board when I hope that Mr Gonrley will accept office for smother year. Mr Gourley has a wonderful faculty for attending to the various duties he undertaken, and in untiring in looking after the interesis and requirements of the Board. He haa taken a fatherly interest in our endovv-nv-nts and the revenues we required. I lfc»ve no dou*»t that members will acquiesce ir; this motion, and that Mr Gourley will see his way to give another year's servba to the Board. I beg to propose the' Hon. 11. Gourley "be re-elected chairman. Mr Pinksrton, in seconding the motion, heartily endorsed the remarks of Mr Maekerras. He had been associated with Mr Gourley for many years, and no member omld take more interest in the welfare of the Board than that gentleman. He had {./.eat pleasure in seconding the morion reeved 4>y Mr Maekerras. There being no further propositions, the s< cretary put the motion for the re-election of Mr Gourley, and it was carried unanimously. Mr Gourley said he could only thank too cumbers icn the honor accorded him. If u-'Jy half the good things attributed to him by Mr Maekerras were true, he would be a wonder. It would bft his duty to do ■wla± he could in the future in looking afte.r tieir interests. He thanked them heartily fp ■ re-eleeting bnn to the position of charrrt'&n.
The following committees were set rrp : V^orks—Messrs Robin, Begg, Carroll, \l- - and the chairman; Finance—Messrs hoes, Barclay, and Thomson; Kfperves—Messg; Pinkerton, Ross, Thornton, Dmirsofl, and Cable.
