BOER PRISONERS FOR THE CHATHAMS.
CHRISTCHURCH, February 10.
The Premier received a deputation this morning in regard to the proposal to' establish a depot for Boer prisoners at the Chathams. In reply Mi - Seddon stated that he did not look on the proposal with favor, and said he thought the Boers were quite near enough. He did not think the proposal would be received with favor by the Imperial Government. His own idea was that New Guinea would be a suitable place to establish such a depot. It was true that the Imperial Government had asked the New Zealand Government if they would favorably entertain a proposal to send Boer prisoners to Stewart Island, but the Government, taking local matters into consideration, came to the conclusion that it was not advisable. He undertook to place the subject brought up by the deputation before Cabinet.
