[Pbb United Pluses Association.] WELLINGTON, February 10. The Westralia, sailing for Sydney on Saturday evening, took about 150 tons of cargo, chiefly timber, hemp, scrap iron (50 tons), fungus, and batter. The Wellington Navals, in their course of instruction at the forts, just concluded, established two records in rapid firing for the colony. P.O. Peterson's detachment, at the 6in gun, got off seven rounds within the ten minutes allowed. Hitherto the record was five rounds in P.O. Jansen’s men fired ten rounds in lOmin, of which nine were adjudged to be hits. Sentences were imposed in the Supreme Court to-day on Daniel Phillips, indecent assault and unnatural offence, four years; George Simpson, criminal assault, five years. . AUCKLAND, February 10. The Congregational Union’s annual Conference opened this morning, the Rev. J. Sarginson, of Christchureh, presiding. Delegates from all parts of the colony are present. INVERCARGILL, February 10. The charge of forgery against Donald W. M’Kay, of the Mataura Saw-milling Company, was dismissed. Mr McCarthy, S.M., said it would be an outrage to send such ji case to the Supreme Court. MTvay’s overweening conceit iu Ids own abilities and disregard of the company, which was really his employer, had brought hhn into Ids present position. Other charges are pending.
