"A NICHT Wl' BURNS."
A large audience assembled at the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge. M.U., room, Stuart street, at the invitation of P.G. Bro. J. Broadfoot, when that brother presented hi; annual programme to celebrate the anniversary of the Scottish bard. P.S. Bro. James Brown presided, supported by Bros. J. F. Arnold, M.H.R-, and P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Sligo. P.P.G.M. Bro. J. Briggs's orchestra opened proceedings by playing a selection of Scottish airs. Mr Alex. Wright sang 'Annie Laurie,' Miss Jessie Allen's recitation 'The Christmas Dumplin"caused much amusement, Bro. Tobias and Miss L. Bailey played a pianoforte duet, Miss Fletcher sang 'The flowers of the Forest,' and Bro. R. J. Meldrum (Oamaru) gained much applause for his violin solo; Bro. A. G Meldrum sang 'Scots wha hae,' and Bro. J. Brown " brought down the house " with his recitation 'Address to a Haggis.' Miss Hall's song ' Logie o' Buchan' was well received, also Mr J. C. Stewart's contribution 'To the memory of Barns.' A party from the Burns choir sang 'Doon the bum,' and Mrs Morrison sang 'Cam ye by Athol,' and (by request) ' The carnival.' P.P.G.M. Bro. Briggs played a cornet solo, and Mr Herbert Moss was encored for 'The Highlandman's Bro. J. Robertson sang 'My Nannie's awa, and G.M. Bro. T. Flynn created much laughter in his song 'l'm the plumber.' Mr J. Collet played the accompaniments. A dance followed, Bro. R. J. Meldrum supplying the dance music and Bro W. Smeal making an efficient M.C.
