.PUBLIC MEETING AT CAPE TOWN.
A LOYAL DEPUTATION. LONDON, February 4. (Received February 5, at 9.29 a.m.) The Mayor of Cape Town has invited the Cape mayors to arrange for a public meeting, in order to repudiate Continental slanders on the army and to express their confidence in Mr Chamberlain. Replying to a loyal address from prominent members of the Afrikander Bond, including many clergy, Sir W. F. HelyHutchinson, Governor of the Cape, stated that it was in the power of the Dutch pastors to materially contribute towards peace.

LONDON, February 4. (Received February .5, at 9.29 a.m.)
Colonel Price captured Bester's laager at Plaarfontein. Three Boers were killed, including commandant Vaugyl. The movement executed by Colonels Byng and Garrett prevented De Wet's intended meeting on the 30th, the Boers dispersing in the direction of Reitz. DESTROYING SUPPLIES. LONDON', February 4. A supply train was held up and partly burnt in the Cradock district.

Lord Kitchener's weekly report states that 29 of the enemy were killed, 6 wounded, 142 made prisoners, and 48 surrendered.
A CHANGE IN TONE.
UNKIND ADVICE TO POOR OLD KRUGER. LONDON. February 4. Many Continental papers are changing their tone towards England. The Vienna 'Montage Zeitung' sarcastically advises Mr Kruger to tiy his fortunes in the field.
