FILLING UP THE SEVENTH.
OAMARU, February 5,
Mr-: four o'clock yesterday Colonel Headland received an urgent telegram asking if ten men could be sent from here to on Thursday to go to SoutL Africa to fill vacancies in the Seventh Contingent. Colonel Headland replied in the affirmative. The announcement was made in the evening paper, and this morning the local Defence Office received a large number of applications. The men were selected before noon, and leave by to-morrow's express. OTAGO'S QUOTA. The following fifteen men will be despatched from here by fie express to-mor-row morning to fill vacancies in the Seventh Contingent:—C. Bjermqvist, A. Clark, W. Irvine, M. Myers, T. Mooney, W. Parlane, C. Reekie, R. Shaw, J. Short, J. Woodford, J. Russell, W. Ewart, R. Meffen, A. M'Nab, J. Andrew. Five will also be sent from Palmerston and ten from Oamani.
