THE EIGHTH CONTINGENT.
[From Our Special Correspondent.]
CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. The arrangements for the despatch of the South Island battalion of the Eighth Contingent are unsettled. Yesterday aftemocn (Tuesday) it was announced that the first Canterbury battalion of infantry had received orders to entrain at Cb.ristcb.uvch for Lyttelton at 12.30 p.m., and that the contingent were to embark at Addington. From this it may be inferred that the official "send-off" will take place at Lyttelton.
