The Grand Jury ai the Wellington Supreme Court yest. 'day took the opportunity of placing upon record their regret at lire approaching retirement of Inspector Pender, and their concurrence with the remarks of His Honor the Chief Justice concerning the inspector’s efforts lr the suppression and detection of crime during Ms supervision of the Wellington district. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors Mr Thomas Ward was elect'd treasurer, and Messrs John Hay and Morgan Carkeek members of the Council. Vice-admiral Rawson will arrive in New South Wales in June next. Mr Saville Gore, a member of Lord Hopetourfs staff, is critically ill of enteric fever.
