THE MOTOR CAR.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—Do you think the motor car should be allowed on the Lower Portobcllo road? No matter how careful the owner of it may me, he is sure sooner or later, when turning one of the numerous comers, to conic suddenly on a vehicle, and then the steam, or whatever it is. will most certainly frighten almost any horse. A traction engine is required to have a man in front with a flag, and this vehicle is equally dangerous. Surely there are enough roads around Dunedin without choosing the Lower Portobello, on which if a horse shies there is no chance of escaping a bad accident. I sincerely trust the owner- will think of the risk to others which he is incurring, and consider other people’s limbs and lives before his pleasure by confining his motor to roads where drivers will have some chance of avoiding an accident if they meet U ; on this road they will have none.—l am, etc., Driver.
