SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At. the Arthur street School Committee meeting last evening the head-master reported the average attendance for the, past four weeks to be. as follows: —Boys 232, girls 274; total, 556. The number on the roll was: Boys 303, girls 298 ; total, 601. The question of establishing a cadet, corps in connection with the school was discussed, and it was stated that a number of the older boys desired to enrol themselves as cadets, while the idea, was encouraged by their parents. The Committee thought that it would be a good thing to foster the patriotic spirit of the boys in this direction, and the secretary was instructed to write to Colonel Webb asking to what extent cadet corps were under the control of the. Defence Department, and other particulars. The monthly meeting of the Kaikorai School Committee was held on Friday evening, when the bead-master reported that the school was now in full swing after the holidays, and that the present roll stood at 718, the "month's average being 652. Fifty-seven pupils had been removed from the roll, and seventy-two new scholars added. The Visiting Committee reported everything in the usual good order. Messrs Moir and Matheson were appointed for the ensuing month.
