Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 25. (Received January 25, at 9.15 a.m.) Compared to 1899 the imports show an increase of £348,000. The gold and silver bullion imported decreased by £1,534,000, but general merchandise increased by £1,685,000. The ' exports decreased by £1,145,000. The decrease in wool was £1,574,000; wheat, £359,000; sheepskins, £484,000; bullion and specie, £239,000. Other goods increased by £1,246,000, thus bringing down the net decrease. BRISBANE, January 25. The total value of the exports last year was £9,072,000, a decrease of nearly two millions compared with the previous year. The imports amounted to £7,052,000, an increase of £400,000 on the preceding year. The export of sugar fell from £1,163,000 to £666,000. The wool exports decreased by £1,182,000. (Received January 25, at 9.20 a.m.) The issue of patriotic stamps was a failure, and resulted in a loss of £126. PERTH, January 25. The Premier (Sir J. Forrest) invited Mr Ssddon to visit Perth. Mr Seddon replied that he was unable to do so, as he had to return to New Zealand immediatelv.
