The Christchurch ‘ Press ’ intimates that a Masterton firm has sold about 4,000 sheep from various parts of the Wairarapa districts to South Island buyers. A Mangavreka correspondent of the same paper says : “ South Island buyers are very busy up this rvay just now. I hear they have bought up 25,000 sheep in Rangitihei district, for which they gave top prices.” THE LABOR MARKET. John Skene and Son report:—There is plenty of employment for all cksscs of workers willing to do hard work, principally in the country-. Ploughmen are still easily placed. A few hinder yvorkers and stackers arc also .getting secured. Good yrnges arc offered all round, milkers going as high as 20s and 21s. We quote wages as follow : —Shepherds, £9O ; ploughmen, 20s to 22s 6d (by hour during harvest) ; milkers, 17s 6d to 21s ; lads. 10s to 15s; fencers, 20s; horsemen. 30s; binderworkers, 35s ; stackers, £2 10s ; grooms and gardeners, 20s; bakers, 25s and 555; station cooks and bakers. 255; turnip thinners, 22s 6d.
