WORK AND WAGES.
Some time ago the Railway Departmentdecided to raise the wages of its day laborers by 61 per day. Later on, the blacksmiths and boilermakers got a similar rise, and the Minister has now decided to extend the increased remuneration to all artisans in the Government Workshops. The change will involve an increased annual expenditure of £20,000.
