BRIEF MENTION.
The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G. Ward) will lay the foundation of the new Ashburton Post Office on Monday. The thermometer registered 106 in the shade at Adelaide yesterday. Amongst the spectators at the execution of Jimmy Governor George Mawbey, brother of the man whose family were so ruthlessly massacred. After the execution he remarked : “ Now I am satisfied. I would never, never have been satisfied unless I had seen this.” An invalid who has reached the remarkable age of 140 years is now in the hospital of Tomsk. He still remembero Catherine 11., and talks of having buried his Wife 100 years ago, and his son ninety years back, Qis record was nearly approached by a Georgian who died a few days ago in Tifiis at the age of 128. On November 25, IS7S, a man named Mortley committed snioide at an accommodation crossing on the South-Eastern and Chatham Railway, near Faversham (England). On the same day, last year, the mangled remains of bis son were found at the very same spot.
