TUAPEKA C.J.C. KACES. Second D/at. These races were concluded yesterday. During the two da-vs Messrs Mason and Roberts put £1,913 10s through the total isator, an increase of £217 10s on the investments at List year's meeting. £894 10s was put through the machine yesterday. The, racing was interesting, but'm the majority of events the fields were wretchedly small. Following are concluding results: TUAPEKA COUNTY JOCKEY CLUB HANDICAP, of 40 sovs; second horse 5 sovs. One mile and a-quarter. 56i —Messrs Ellis Bros.' b m Decoy, 6 yrs, 8-5 (M'Comb) 1 29 —Mr G. Smith's b g Bracken, 6 yrs, 8.1 (Harding) 2 There were no other starters. The two horses raced almost side by side all the way till the straight was reached. Decoy then drew away from his companion, and won by about a length and a-half. Time, 2min 14sec. There was £BS 103 on the machine; dividends, £1 6s and 13s. SHORTS HANDICAP, of 20 sovs. Four furlongs. 54£—Mr J. Forbes's b m Off Chance, aged, 8.6 (Harding) 1 59 —Mr P. Toomey's blk m Gladys 11., aged, 8.13 (Noble) 2 59J. —Messrs Ellis Bros.' b m Ukase, 4 yrs, 7-2 (Smith) 3 Ukase was the first to draw in front, but after going a furlong and a-half Off Chance got on terms with him, and they raced almost side by side until the straight was reached. Off Chance then came away, and won by a length. Gladys 11. passed Ukase near home, and beat her by less than half a length. Time, 50sec. There was £163 on the machine ; dividends, £2 12s and £1 6s. STEWARDS' PURSE HANDICAP, of 20 sovs. Seven furlongs. Hon. G. M'Lean's b m Brisa, 5 yrs, 9.2 (Noble) 1 Brisa had a walk-over. FAREWELL TROT, of 25 sovs. One mile. 37^—Mr P. Clenfs b g The Laird, aged, 15sec (Owner) t 44£—Mr W. Carson's blk m Patience, aged, 9sec (M'Kewen) t 14 —Messrs Todd Bros.' b g Whirlwind, aged, 13sec (Wilkins) 3 Also started: 48£ Erin (ssec, Line), 29 Inchkeith (9sec, Allan), 2£ Sigvald (18sec, Gillet). Erin and Inchkeith stopped after going a short distance, their riders apparently thinking it was no start. When about 100 yards from home Patience had a lead of half a from home Patience had a lead of half a length or more from The Laird, but after an exciting finish the two came in together. Patience did the distance in 2min 40isec, The Laird in 2min 46isec. There was £176 on the totalisator. Dividends: On Patience, £1 14s and 17s; on The Laird, £2 2s and £1 Is. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of 20 sovs. Six furlongs. 115—Mr A. Hill's b g Belligerent, aged, 10.5 (M'Comb) 1 10—Mr H. Crossan's br g Annoyance, aged, 6.9 (Harding) 2 35—Messrs Ellis Bros.' b m Ukase, 4 yrs, 7.9 (Smith) 3 Also started: 42 Stockfish (8.5, M'Eldowncy), 7 Chaos (6.11, King). Belligerent was quickest away, and was followed by Stockfish and Ukase in the order named. When the straight was reached Ukase drew away from Stockfish, and both these were passed in quick succession by Annoyance. Belligerent, however, succeeded in keeping in front all the way, and won by a length and a-half, there being half a length between second and third. Time, lniin There was £209 on the machine; dividends, £1 12s and 16s. A London cable in the Australian papers states that Stevenson defeated C. Dawson in the match (9,000 up) for the billiard championship of England by 2,594 points.
