VITAL STATISTICS.
WELLINGTON, January 17. The following are the vital -statistics for December:—. ■ 1
The total births in the four principal boroughs amounted to 402, as againat 406 in November—a decrease of 4. The deaths in December were 14S—a decrease of 21 on the number in November. Of the total deaths, males contributed 69 and females 79. Forty-6ve of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 28.38 per cent, of the whole number. Thirty-eight of these were under one year of age. There were 36 deaths of] persons of 65 years and upwards. Seven men (65, 67, 72, 75, 76, 78, 78) and three women (66, 70, 76) died at Auckland ; three . men (65, 77, 85) and one woman (69) at Wellington ; four men (76, 79, 80, 83) and nine women (66, 66, 70, 70, 73, 76. 78, 79, 91) at Christchuroh ; and three men (65, 72, 88) and six women (68, 72, 77, 78, 82, 88) at Dunedin.
