MEETINGS OP SOCIETIES.
The Alliance Lodge of Good Templars held their weekly meeting on Wednesday evening 'in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, South Dunedin, the Chief Templar, Bro. 11. Stubb, presiding. A memorial card was reI ceived from Mrs Parkinson, in memory of the lamented Bro. Parkinson. It was resolved that it be framed and hung in the lodge room. A committee was appointed (Bro. M’Fariane convener) to carry out a series of concerts during the winter months. Distinguished members of the Order—viz , Bro. Dalton (Marshal of the Grand Lodge and District Deputy for Christchurch), also Sis. Gumming (of the Reviving Stream Lodge, I Addington), and Grand Ladge member?, and | Bro. Leach (from Denaiston) —were introi duoed, and received a hearty welcome. Bro. Dalton, in reply, gave an account of hotw the Order was progressing in the Northern district, and Sh. Gumming, sen. (who had lately visited ihe Old Country), gave an interesting .account of the lodges she had visited, and conveyed the greetings from both S-iet-tish, English, and W*lsh lodges. Bro. Whale (Star of Freedom), Bro. Gormsek (Hope of Dunedin), Bro. M’Councll (Ldy of the Valley), Sis. Thorn (Hope of Catvr.iham), and Bro. Johnston (All Nations), in responding, gave their experiences, each showing a goo f: tecord ; but they were eclipsed when Bro. Grogan (of ihe Pioneer) ainouao d that dur ng fourteen ye.irs in the Order he had only linen absent once from his lodge. meeting'. 'Harmony was opened by Rs. .M'Farlaoe with' Vpiano solo; Bro. Ridges sang 1 Falher O’Fiynn,’ Sm. .Quinmng recited ‘These Happy Days,’ Bro. M‘Donnell tang ‘ The Irish harper,’, Bro. Siubbi gave a do-criptive sosg, Bro. Bainetr. recited ‘ Tho .Yankee S.iowniam,’ Bro. ii M‘F.‘.rlane sang ‘ Calvary,’ and Bro. Dalton ‘ Anoie Laurie,’ which made an excellent progr m n«.

The District Executive visited the lodge officially, and were received in due form. Tne secretary gave nu er.coursging report of the concert field on the slh inst. S;s. Uummir.gs conveyed the fraternal greetings of the Reviving Stream Lodge, Christchurch, and also ot several other lodges she bad visited. The customary vote oi thunks to the visitors was responded to by Sis. Cummings (Reviving Stream), Bro. Mortimer (Pioneer), and Bro. M'Farlane (Alliance)..'
