PICNICS.
Evnnsdale was the place chosen this year for the butchers’ picnic, which was held on Tuesday. The weather was all that could be desired, and some 600 availed themselves of the excursion. On reaching Evansdale a sports programme was carried out, which provided keen competition in the various events; while dancing was indulged in by a large number during the day. After lea had been partaken of a start was made on the return journey, and Dunedin was readied about eight o’clock, everyone being thoroughly pleased with the outing, thanks to the indefatigable exertions of the Committee. Mr J. Betbune’s band rendered several selections during (he day, which were highly appreciated by those present. In the sports programme W. Morland won the Drivers’ Race, W. Higginson the Shop and Small-goods Hands’ Race, E. Bolting the Master Butchers’ Race, Mrs R. Bolting the Butchers’ Wives’ Race, and F. Gibson the race for married butchers.
