The Premier has received a cable from the Agent-General that the Hon. Richard Oliver has given £IOO to the New Zealand Rough Rider’s Fund. WELLINGTON NOTES. [Special io thh Stab.] WELLINGTON, January 30. Lady Douglas intends holding a carnival in Government House grounds in aid of tho fund to assist the New Zealanders injured in the war or persons dependent upon them. Tho Mayor’s Patriotic Fund amounts to nearly £5,700. The number of volunteers for the Third Contingent offering at Wanganui total over 250, of whom eighty have offered to provide their own horses.
The drillehed is crowded with hundreds of applicants desirous of enrolment in the Rough Riders' Contingent. The great majority are respectable looking yqung men of good physique.
