SHOOTING COMPETITIONS.
: —• ■ Dunedin- Rifle Club The Dunedin R fle Club tired the final competition for a travelling rug (presented by a member of the club) on Saturday last. The conditions for the trophy were four competitions (three to count, and one optional), und the winner proved to bo Mr Lydere, with a total of 217 points. A' " fishLail " wind puzzled most of the competitors, and the shooting on the whole was poor. Oa Silurday alternoon the Engineers Bred a field firing natch at their range, Pdichet Biy. Th*; conditions were ten shots at 300 yds (kneeling) and 400 yds (lying down). Volley-firing targets wero used, hits on the lower portion counting five and on the upper portion three. The match drew a large number of competitors. Corporals Power and Jacobs, with possib'es, tied for first place, and on firing off the former was placed first, taking Lieutenant Nieolson's prize; Corporal Jacobs takes the second prizi, and Engineer VVhelan third.
