THE OTAGO HUSSARS.
At the inspection of the Ocago Hussars at Tahuna Park yesterday, Colonel Webb was accompanied by Brigade-surgeon Lieutenantcolonel De Lautour, Captain and Adjutant Hislop, and Lieutenant and Adjutant F. Sironaoh. There were fifty men on parade —a good turn-out, considering that the troop supplied eleven men for the Transvaal Contingent. Colonel Webb thus addressed the men : " Otago Huasars, Notwithstanding that you have sent eleven men to swell the numbers of the New Zealand Contingent you have turned out a good muster. You are well mounted, and officers and men know their work. The groundwork of this organisation, by which, when an officer or non-commissioned officer or trooper falls out, another takes his place, was excellently laid by Major Robin, whoso assiduity in learning his work aa an officer is now so much appreciated by the colony. He will bo a proud man to-morrow, and you may be proud men to-day, that you belong to a corps which rtfleets so much credit on him."
After the maroh pist an examination of Adjutant Stronacb and Acting-lieutenants Prain and Freeman was held. All these officers passed satisfactorily.
A deputation waited ou Mr D. A. De Maua to-day and asked him to contest the Port Chalmers mayoralty Mr Da Maus g»ve an affirmative reply.
