LONDON, Mat 12. Tho Bank of England returns show the reserve to be £38.308,000; coin and bullion, £ 10,474,000 ; the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 39.50. Tho notes in circulation total £27,723,000; public deposits, £11,390,000; other deposits, £37,792,000; Government securities, £13.373,000 ; other securities, £34,164,000. Three months’ bills are discounted at 2 3-16 per cent. Consols are quoted at 110. Quotations for Colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling at the close of last week :
The wheat market is quiet. March cargoes are being offered at 28s 6d, and April cargoes at 28s 3d ; March parcels, per steamer, at 28s 3d, and per sailer at 27s 6d. Sugar is flat. Java, 13s; German, 11s. Metals. The copper market is dull. On the spot, £76 10s. Tin is steady. On the spot, £ll6 10s ; three months, £ll7 ss. Pig iron, 62s 9d. Lead : Soft foreign, £l4 5s ; spelter, £2B 10s.. Silver is quoted at 2s 4d per oz. The Bradford wool market is brisk. Tops, common sixties, 24|d; ditto, superior, 26d.
Colonial rabbits are in poor demand. The best qualities have been sold at 9id. The butter market is quiet ; prices nominally unchanged. At the wool sales the Kaiwarra (N.Z.) clip sold at 11 j|d per lb.
