The wicket was playing queerly, the balls shooting owing to the heavy dew. The attendance was again large. Gregory was smartly taken behind the wickets. Trumble was bowled off his pad. The fourth wicket fell with the score at 90, and the fifth at 94. The innings closed for 144, The catch which dismissed Laver was a very easy one. At the luncheon adjournment Essex had lost one wicket for 8. The second wicket fell without any increase in the score Owen and Perrin were both taken in the slips by smart catches. M'Qahey ahd Turner played a lucky innings, each giving two chances, which were declined. Jones’s pace was tremendous.
Arrangements have been made for a match against Grace’s team at Crystal Palace on Julv 20.
