North East ordinary meeting of the North-East Valley Council Was held on Saturday night; present : The Mayor (Mr Evans) and Cts Macandrew, B»iley, Longworth, Cimpb?ll, Scoones, R'uihworth, Green, and Aiderson. The Finance Committee reported that the bank overdraft was.£449 lis 2d under limit.—The Committee reported that thirty four dairies had been inspected and certificates issued. While all were in a healthy . condition, those belonging to John Campbell, Richard Cleave, D. M'Gregor, T. Murphy, Isaac Green., James M'Gregor, and James FarquhSrson were specially commended for purity of water supply, general comfort, and cleanliness. Adopted.—Mr C. M "Andrew's application for permission to a fence across Normtmby street was granted Jurii g the pleasure of the Council. —Mr A. Tiltman applied to havo Duncau street, Ferguslie, channelled near his house. The Council resolved that they were not pnpired to undertake the work at present.— Mr Alexander Drummond wrote asking if he oould lease a mining claim for dredging purposes on the borough endowment, and Mr James Reid wrote protesting against any authority being granted. Th) application was declined. The Mayor intimated that owing to the continued of the borough scavenger he had advertised that neglected work would be immediately performed on notice being given, and had employed Mr Hollander to attend to a number of oases at Mr Ellis's expenße.-—The following resolutions were passed :—" That metal be spread on the inner portion of Black road footpath; that the Tramway Company be written to, requiring tbem to put the road in order after lifting the rails on the Normanhy-Hawthorn branch line ; that the;, ranger's attention be called to the number" of stray cattle in the district; that the police be requested to prosecute the persons who removed the oyclists' danger board at Hangman's Gully; that the danger board .be re-erected, and put opposite Mr Skinner's house." -The Council went into committee to oonßidcr applications for the appointment of borough scavenger. , On resuming it was resolved that the appointment stand over for further consideration.
