BRIEF MENTION.
Dugald M 'Caiman, aged sixty-seven, committed suicide in a novel manner at Horsham By means of an indiarubber gaspipe placed under the bedclothes a strong current of gas was introduced, causing suffocation.
An indignant parent at Tongaporutu wrote to the New Plymouth Education Board concerning the duties of the truant inspector and the treatment he (the parent) Had received. "I think," the writer mentioned inter alia, "if the truant inapeotor came up here and got stuck in the mud he might go back to New Plymouth a wiser man than he came here. I have no desire to keep my children from school, but send them when sick I would rather go to New Plymouth Prison, as I would consider it no crime or shame." The Board decided to let the letter lie on the table.
