FOOTBALL.
OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND.
INVERCARGILL, August 25. This match was played on the Union Grounds'this afternoon.
It was a grand day, and there was a great attendance at the match. Otago won the toss, and played with a fair wind in their favor but the sun in their face.
The visitors' passing and tackling were good, but the Southland forwards proved their superiority by getting the ball in the serum and on the line-out almost every time. Anderson scored near the corner flag, but Manson's kick was a failure. Priest had a kick at goal from a mark near the post, but failed. The play was fast and open. Score at half-time (four o'clock): Southland 3 points, Otago nil. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. The following teams will represent the Roslyn Club in the fiv-e>a-3ide tournament on Saturday at Caledonian Ground :—No. 1 team : G. M'Millan, D. M'Millan, Arlidge, S. Brown, P. M'Millan. No. 2 team : G. Calder, A. Dobson, W. Dobson, Dodd, Duff. No. 3 team: Morrison, Ussher, Gilroy, Gray, Gillespie. No. 4 team: Wilson, Millar, Omand, Harlow, Parker. Their No. 1 team is particularly strong, and No. 2 should also give a good account of themselves. The Committee will meet to-morrow evening to arrantje the draw, which will be published in Friday's papers. All competitors must appear on the field in tho recognised colors of the club they represent, and entrance money must be paid before teams take the field.
The Mornington Club have entered two tairly strong teams.
