SYDNEY, August 23, The Soladon’s . cargo was insured for £535 in the Australian Alliance Company. The money was paid over some time ago. At the time of her departure Captain Jaegar. was very; ill with consumption.

The Seladon Was a barque of 1,102 tons gross register, and was owned by Mr G. Gunderson, of Sfcayenger, Norway. She was built in 1877.

The ship’a crew consisted of Actolf Jaegar (captain, who died in. the - boat), Christian Neilsen (chief mate, who was drowned) Claris Ladi (second mate), Tollah Olsen (carpenter, who died on Sonhia Island), Laos Tonnereeen (steward), Peder Time (sailMarrslies Aske (A.8.). Hans Jensen (A.8.), Karl Tholsen (A.8.), Abraham nalrsen (AB.), Gabriel Johnson (A.8.) Inglebert Hognestad.. (ordinary seaman)’ Johannes Knudson (ordinary seaman), Andrew Jakhodson (ordinary seaman), Hans Tolleffieh (boy), and Tomiiies Bsrenaen (boy). They left Scavenger/ Norway, and joined the Seladon in Loudon. From there the vessel went to the Baltic to load lumber with, which she proceeded to Aigoa Bay! From Algoa'Bay she went to Newcastle, New South Wales, sailing from there for Honolulu.

According to the chart the wrecked sailors must have made a voyage of' about 2,000 miles in the ship’s boat before they reached Sophia Island.' After leaving Starbuck Island they steered northwards for some distance, as Malden Island and Christmas Island lie considerably to the north. Then they sailed south and west till they made Sophia, which lies, m lOdeg 46min S. latitude and IJOJeg Simla E. longitude. Sophia Island lies just north of the Fiji group, and is a small wooded island two to three miles in circuit.
