The amount of revenue collected at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption to-day was £58119s 7d.

Mr Snodgrass, of the Blenheim branch, succeeds the late Mr M’Owen as manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Ashburton.

It Is officially announced that ns the whole of the assets in Walter Guthrie and Co., Limited, are subject to the claims of the debenture-holders there will be no surplus available for unsecured debts.

THE LABOR MARKET.

An Auckland telegram says “ The Haurakl Ymne, Coromandel, return is more satisfactory, less ore having yielded more gold this month 6390z realising £1,757. and this being obtained from 300 tons.”

Thursday, August 26. For Southland, Australian Colonies (via Hobart), India, China, Japan, Straits Settlements. South Africa, Mediterranean Ports, Continent of Europe United Kingdom, etc. —Per Wakatipu, at 2.15 p.m.

Money orders (for Australian Colonies only) registered letters, books, and newspapers, at 1.15 p.m. Late letters, C.P.0., at 2.25 p.m. Parcels post mails for the Australian Colonies will close at 3 p.m. on the 24th. A supplementary mail will be made up at 3.30 P-m. '(overland, to connect with the Wakatipu at the Bluff). Letters for the United Kingdom must be specially addressed. Friday, August 27. For Lyttelton and Christchurch.—Per Te Anau, at 2.15 p.m. Late letters, C.P.0., at 2.25 p.m.

Mails for Straits Settlements, United Kingdom, and South Africa, per Westralia, will close at Auckland on Monday, 23rd inst, at 6 p.m. Mails for Tonga. Samoa, and Fiji, per Taviuni, will close at Auckland on the 2oth inst., at 4 p.m. A post office, to ha called Pukepeto, has been opened at Manuka Island with a bi-weekly mail service from Balclutha.
