There is no hope of arbitration being adopted in connection with the great strike at the Pittsburg coal mines. The owners declined the overtures of the men, and refuse to submit the wages question te referees. The struggle between the operators and colliers promises to be protracted. There is every indication of a coal famine within the next few days. The 6trike means that if after two months' idleness the miners win it will take them a year to recover the wages lost. The number of men out is 120,000. [The strike did not take place.] A heavy wind and rain storm struck 8k Louis on June 24, doing much damage. Thewind struck an insane asylum, one of the poorhouse buildings, in which were shel. tered seventy-five inmates, all cripples. The building was demolished and much damage done to other places. Fonst Park,, one of the largest in.the country, suffered ft great deal, the trees being circled in every direction.
