Our Christchurch correspondent wires : "Duncan, Armit, and Harris, who represented Otago in the late Australian campaign, just caught the Southern express this morning, walking Btraight to it from the Lyttelton train."

The Southland Union have definitely decided on the 25th inst. and the 4th of September as the dates for their annual contests with Otago, the first match to be played at Invercarrill. The old Caledonian Ground was the scene of an exciting game of football yesterday between Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane'a employed and Combined Grocers. Roscoe captained M'Farlane'a men (the Thistle) and Breen the Combined Grocers. The former won the toss, and Breen kicked off. After a great struggle M'Farlane'a men were victorious by three tries (9 points) to nil. Tries were obtained by Roscoe (2) and Cunningham. Roscoe, Shannon, Cunningham, and Brown played will for the Thistle, so did Pollock, Breen, Moir, and Larkins for the losers.

A match between the 'Otago Daily Times' and West Taieri Clubs will be played at Outram on Saturday. The teams are as follow:—'Times': Backs—Hume, Sinclair, Blaike.Mion, Harris, Smealon(captain); forwards—Stansfield. Russell, Balhnlyne.Barr, Mason, Pearce, Ritchie. Dodds. D. Little. West Taieri: Backs—H. Monk, P. Bathgate, T. Bathgate, F. Cuthbert, J. Smeaton, J. Cameron, R. Duff; forwards—E. M'Leod, A. Moore, A. Hastie, J. M'Leod, W. Duff, C. Anderson, R. Chisholm, J. Andrew. The annual match between the Bank of New Zealand and the Union S.S. Company takes place on Saturday on the -Caledonian Ground, at 3 p,m. The following are the teams: Bank or New Zealand.
