RAVENSBOURNE MENAGERIE SHOW.

The Ravensbourne menagerio show was opened last night in the uew *boatahed under most auspicious circumstances, the hall being immediately filled with an immense crowd, who were unanimous in their praise of the extent and variety of the exhibits. The Mayor (Mr T. Ross), in opening the show, said the shed was put up by the people with the object of bringmg all classes of the community together on matters affecting the progress and welfare of the district. , .The ; present show was a most comprehensive one, and in addition to the poultry, pigeons, cage birds, and dogs, some of the exhibits of which were pronounced by the judges to be equal toanyof theprizs-takersin the larger centres, there were grouped together an array of living curiosities never before seen in'one place in the oolony, there being a pair of black opossums bred in New Zealand (from Catlins), a fine specimen of the Tuatara lizard, a kangaroo, a pair of tortoises, and a veritable New Guinea python (measuring 9ft 7in), Madagascar guinea pigs, keas, and talking parrots and • cobkatoos in great variety. He had very much pleasure in deolaring the show open, and trusted that it would be the beginning of what would eventually lead up to an annual show of more than local importance. There was'a guessing competition for a fat sheep and a jar of peas, both of which were well patronised. The North-east Valley Band were in attendance, and lent valuable assistance. Messrs Jennings and M'Lean were the judges for the poultry, cats, and cage birds, and Mr Barnard was judge for the dogs. The following is a list of the prize-takers:— Best cock, any sort.—D. Kellet 1, J. Partell h.c. Cats.—Miss M'Cutcheon 1.
