FIRES.
The insurances on the i’ahiatua fire ate : Benzie’s furniture, £3OO in the Loudon and Liverpool and Globe; Smith, £IOO in the National: Falconer, £l9O in the South British. Webb. Rowley, and Granger were uninsured. Mrs Russell's property was insured for £2OO in the London and Liverpool and Globe, and £IOO in t.hc North British ; the shops owned by Williams for £4OO- in the London and Liverpool and Globe. It was only by the exertions of the brigade that the Commercial Hotel and theatre were saved. A high wind was blowing at the time. Since January 4 there have been tbirtyone outbreaks of fire in Wellington. Fortunately none were of a very serious nature, hpd the. estimated loss is about £7,000.
