[By The Admiral] Iu winning the Takapuna Cup to-day under the steadying impost of 9.4 Fabulist has proved himself a really great three-year-old, and has shown that his Great Northern Derby race, wherein he put up a record, was no fluke. My selection, St. Kilda, got home in the Zealandia Handicap, and paid the nice dividend of £7 I9i. Tapanui races to-morrow. Toxa may win the Tapanui Handicap, Arline the President's Handicap, Rab the Maiden Trot, and J.H. the Three-mile Trot. H. Freeman, who purchased the gate privileges at last Olaki Maori meeting, sued the stewards for £6O for breach of contract in postponing the races till next day, and was nonsuited. The Auckland correspondent of the ' Lyttelton Times' wires that it is improbable that St. Hippo will start for the Dunedin Cup. HAWKE'S BAY RACES. Douglas is set down for hearing at the Supreme Court next month. The claim is for £2,679, the plaintiff alleging that the defendant illegally took possession of the Wellington Cup winner Brooklet, in the face of an agreement giving him the use of the mare as long as Bhe could rsc\ BOWLING. The preliminary heats of the third race (distance, 150 yds) in connection with the Dunedin Amateur Swimming Club, took placj at St. Clair Baths last evening, and resulted as under : First Heat—lt. Bolton, scratch. 1; J. G. Macdonald, Usee, 2. Alsostarted: 11. Fisher (User), C. Stables (24see). Won easily. Time, 2min 13scc. Second Heat.—ll. Maitland, scratch, 1: F. Given, 7sec, 2. Also started: \V. Belcher (14sec), R. Sise (l&sec), P. Spraggon(22sec). Won by a few yards ; a close go for second place between Given and Belcher. Time, 2min 19sec. Third Heat.-O. Miiller 3sec and W. Rice scratch, dead heat. Also started : A. Howden (12sec(, W. Wurr (2b"sec). This was a splendidly contested race. Miiller and Rice were the only two to finish. Time, 2min 17sec.
The final heat takes place at St. Clair this evening at 7.1 a. The winner receives a prize of the value of £1 Is and 5 points, second 3, third 1. The poiuts already gained are: H. Maitland 6, F. Given 5, R. Bolton 3, 0. A. Moller 3, W. Rice 1. There will also be a boys' race tonight.
Mostyn and Destiny have been scratched for the Newmarket Handicap. The stewards of the Gore Racing Club have decided in connection with the late meeting that Parsons and Duncan be disqualified under rules 25 and 154, and that the Metropolitan Club be asked to endorse the decision ; that J. R. M'Kenzie be disqualified during the pleasure of the club. R. Taggart, the rider of J.H., will be suspended pending the payment of his fine for disobedience, and the D.J.C. will be asked (o adopt a similar course with him. The secretary was instructed to write to W. Emerson, of Tapanui, cautioning him about his action at the late meeting. A Wellington telegram says that the locally-owned racing horse Leda, by Castor —Welcome Katie, has been sold to an Auckland sportsman for 300 guineas.
