FIRE AT TE AROHA.
SEVERAL BUILDINGS DESTROYED.
TE AROHA, jAMUAKr»24. A fire here destroyed the properties occupied by J. Woods (butcher), ft Tonga (draper), R. Brennan (shoemaker), the Club Hotel, Park's boarding-house, Cajder's fruit shop, Waters's Drapery shop, 0. Byrove's fruit shop, F, Batten (watchmaker), Barber (bootmaker); all of which were burned to the ground. The following are some of the insurances : —Norwich Union, £SO; United, £SO; North German, £l5O. The New Zealand Insurance Company are the heaviest losers, their risk being estimated at about £2,000. Hubert Cox, son of Mr E. Y. Cox, of Shaftesbury, sustained very severe injuries. While getting through a window he was badly cut about the arms by broken glass, and was also severely burned. Cox was to have left this morning for Auckland to be married. Morrison, an invalid boarder, had a very narrow escape. He was unable to move himself, and was carried out at the last minute. The fire started in the hotel about half-past three o'clock in the morniog. It is thought by the lessee, Mr Shultz, to have originated in the card room. >
