MR FREDERIC VILLIERS.
The famous war artist and correspondent, Mr Frederic Villiers, who during the last two months has been appearing before large and enthusiastic audiences in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, will arrive in Dunedin on Monday, and on Tuesday evening next will give his opening lecture in the Princess’s Theatre. After the capture of Port Arthur, which virtually finished the China-Japanese war, Mr Villiers, who represented the London ‘ Standard ’ and ‘ Black and White,’ was on the point of returning to England, when he was invited by Mr R. S. Smythc by cable to conic first to Australia and relate his experiences with the Japanese forces at the front during the recent contest between the two great Eastern Powers, in which the most modern armaments were used for the first time with such signal effect. The lectures will be under the patronage of Lieutenant-colonel Webb and the officers of the Dunedin district. The subject for the first lecture is ‘ War on a White Sheet ’ and ‘ With the Japs at the Front.’ The boxplans will bo open at Messrs Wise and Co.’s to-morrow morning.
