t ( ,7 I 7 helA’ tft.day ; | 'present—Dean J, B. Sinclair, J. F. M.Fraser, H< Clark, andH. S. Fish (mayor). The Chairman reported the receipt of a letter from the Rev. Dr Belcher announcing his resignation as rector of the Boys’ High School—The resignation was accepted as from February next. A report from Mr G. Clark on the heating apparatus of the Boys’ High School was referred to Messrs Sinclair and Fish as a committee, with power to act. * The Finance Committee reported passing accounts amounting to £547 10s 9d. The Minister of Education forwarded eopiesj of the EadoWad Schools Act which' it is intended to introduce into Parliament.
A letter was received from, the secretary of the Education Department asking—(l) How many pupils in the High Schools are unable to pass the Sixth Standard of the public schools ? (2) What arrangements are made in the High Schools for the instruction of children who have passed the Sixth Standard.—The Chairman reported that he had referred the inquiries to the rectors, and their replies were read.—The secretary was instructed to forward them to the Minister.
