ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
The inquest on the body of Thomas Gullery, who died in the Picton Hospital on Monday after a spell of unconsciousness lasting from Saturday night, when he received a blow from George Harris, has been postponed till Saturday. James Bain, aged nineteen, was accidentally killed by a fall of coal in the West-port-Cardiff Coal Company’s mine at Mokihinui on the 17th inst.
Catherine Rodgers, a widow, aged seventy years, was found dead in her bed yesterday. Deceased lived by herself in her own house at Caversham for the last five years. Dr Ogston states that her system was completely broken down, and ho fully expected that she would drop off suddenly. An inquest was held on the body this after-' noon, when the jury returned a verdict of “Death from syncope.” A Wellington telegram states that Mr M. G. Hickey, accountnut in the drainage en* gineei’a department, slipped in alighting from a tramcar, and a wheel passed over his body, breaking three ribs. His condition is serious. Mr Hickey had told the driver that there was no necessity to stop to allow him to get off. He narrowly escaped being killed two or three years ago by falling off a tramcar.
