THE COURTS—TO-DAY.

CITY POLICE COURT. (Before Messrs C. H. Chapman and R. Chisholm, J. P.s) Lakceky. —Conrad Besan, on remand, was charged with, on the 25th April, at Dunedin, stealing fourteen pieces of lead, value L2, the property of George Birncs,— Detective M’Grath stated that Mr Falconer, who was acting in the place of Mr Torrance, had promised to keep an eye on the lad if the Bench would convict and discharge him, so that he might go back to his former employer.—Mr Falconer spoke on behalf of the boy, and it was suggested by the Bench that if possible employment should be found for him on board some ship.—The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The Bench addressed a few words of counsel to him, and informed him that they were desirous of giving him another chance, of which they hoped he would take advantage.
