The election excitement has not so far proceeded beyond a little noisy jocularity at the central booth. The bulk of the pollers this morning are Mr Bell’s people—a fact which has made some of his supporters extremely confident. James Madden, cx-publican, was committed for trial this morning for attempting to stab Dr Grace with a pocket-knife, The Meat Export Company’s new works at Ngabauranga were fitted with the Linde Company’s ammonia freezing machinery. This is the first time this type of machinery has been tried in the colonies. The experiment will be watched with some interest. CHRISTCHURCH, January 15.
The third wool sale for Christchurch took place to-day. There was a fairly good attendance of buyers, and prices as a whole were as good as last seasons. Considering the nature of the wool, some think them a slight advance. The greatest demand was for merino, which in the main realised the best figures,
