At a meeting of the Commercial Bank the chairman defended the institution from the implication of having been concerned in a conspiracy to ruin the Bmk of Van Diemen’s Land. He said that if the bank could have been saved they would have done so, but an inspection of the accounts prior to the suspension disclosed revelations that had never in their wildest dreams been anticipated, and there was no course but to advise the closing of the institution. This statement has caused a sensation, as it is a totally different story to that set forth by the management of the Bank of Van Diemen’s Land,
