THE BANQUET TO THE GOVERNOR.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— A letter appeared in yonr Saturday’s issue signed “Citizen” commenting upon the absence of local and suburban members of Parliament from the meeting which was called for the purpose of arranging lot a banquet to Lord Onslow previous to his departure from the Colony. So far ae I am concerned, I was not present because I was not invited. Whether other M.H.R.S were invited or not I do not know, I thoroughly agree with the movement, and do not feel myself at all slighted in not being asked to attend the meeting. I trust the affair will be a success, and I think the Committee should be made as comprehensive as possible, for I feel certain that His Excellency the Governor would desire that a valedictory banquet to himself should be thoroughly representative of all classes in the community.—l am, etc., H. S. Fish, jun. Dunedin, January 9, TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—Your correspondent “Citizen" is mistaken in supposing that my absence from the meeting held the other night to consider the advisability of tendering some sort of farewell to His Excellency the Governor was discourteous on my part. I absolutely did not know anything of the matter. If “ Citizen ” feels aggrieved, 1 would suggest to him the advisability of disclosing his name, and I have no doubt the other citizens will gladly work with him to give a more public send-off to His Excellency than that proposed.—l am, etc., T. Ferscs, Dunedin, January 11,
