AUCKLAND, October 12,

The Rev. E. Protfc, of St. Barnabas Church, Mount Eden, has under consideration an offer of the incumbency at the Cathedral parish of St. Paul's, Wellington. There has arrived here a schooner called the Pitcairn, owned by the General Conference of the Seventh Day Adventists, whose headquarters are at Battle Creek, Michigan. The schooner was constructed specially for mission purposes in the Pacific. She brings Mr and MrsJetts as missionaries.

Nearly all of the Wellington Association football team left again for the South today. Inspector Broham has received information from Whangarei that Mr Bishop, R.M., on Saturday dealt with the Poroti still case. Underhill was fined LIOO, or twelve months' imprisonment, and the stilling plant was confiscated.

Dunn, the celebrated burglar, died yesterday at Mount Eden Gaol. He was Bent up from Wellington to Auckland Gaol and discharged here, but was subsequently arrested by Deteotive Herbert for attempted burglary at the Oxford Hotel, after a sharp encounter between the two men, in which the officer had bis handcuffs and Dunn a butcher's cleaver. The late Justice Gillies sentenced Dunn to fourteen years' penal servitude, half of whioh sentence had been served. NEW PLYMOUTH, October 12. The Supreme Court was opened this morning. The Crown Prosecutor entered a nolle prosequi in the case of John Hunter, charged with rape, in which the jury disagreed on Saturday. This completed the criminal business. WAKGAKCI, October 12. At the Supreme Court, Gray, oonvicted of ■tabbing ana wounding, was sentenced to eight months' hard labor. Harry Laing and William Noble pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing L23ofrom Joßeph Abbott. Mr Fitzherbert appeared for the Crown, Mr Coateß for Noble, and Mr David Hogg for Laing. The case is expected to last all day. WELLINGTON, October 12. The ' Picturesque Atlas' cases are adjourned till Friday, when judgment will be given. It is understood that appeal will be made whatever the result.
