SEWERS ON FIRE. MELBOURNE, October 12. (Received Ootober 12, 1891. at 11.15 a.m.)
A singular gas escapo from the mains into the sewers occurred in Elizabeth street yesterday. By some means the gas ignited, and the fUmea burst through the gratings into the street, rising nearly 30ft high. On the outbieak being discovered the gas was cut off and the flameß extinguished.
