ARRIVAL OP THE PAKEHA

Tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's mag.ifioeut cargo steamer Pakeha arrived at Port Chalmers on Saturday afternoon and was berthed at the George street per to discharge cargo. Thu Pakeha is under the command of our old friend Captain W. Scotland, who ii to be o mplimented on the pxcellout order in which he has brought this splendid vessel into po:t. She brings 3,800 torn of cargo for New Zealsnd, in addition to which she landed 700 tons at Hobart. Her Dunedin cargo consists of 1,100 tons, piincipally general. Captain Scotand brings with him tho following staff of officers : - Chief, Mr Beale; second, Mr H. "Ward; third, Mr H. Hutchison; fourth, Mr L. Giibcns. The engine room is in charge of Mr Bullock; Mr M'Oulloch hj second, Mr Wilson third, Mr M'Jonegal fourth; and Mr B, J. Percy U chief steward, (lapain Scotland reports leaving London on Ju'j 1, had light winds, and cleared the Channel on July 3; fair wt ather was experienced acroistheßay of Blrcay, and thence she had N.B. winds down to the meridian of the Canaries; then she had northerly winds until she passed tbe meridian of 161 eg V., when the usual S.W. monsoon set In ; the Equitor was crosied on July 15, in longitude 120deg W., and the S.P. bade at once picked up; it was moderate, and she crossed tho meridian of drf mwich on July 24, in latitude 283 eg S.; hid moderate weather, and rounded the of Good Hope on July 30, in latitude 46deg S. ; had F.W. to S.W. winds, witli occasional galea and heavy squalts of hail and snow acrosa the Southern Ocean, and sighted Kerguelen Island on August 7 during a heavy S,W. gale; thence she encountered very heavy weather, and crossed the meridian of Caps Leeuwin on August 15 in latitude 49deg S., and reached Hobart at 4 a.m. on the 21st lust.; landed 700 tons of cargo, and left that port at 6 a.m. on the 25th inst,; had moderate weather across to New Zealand, and arrrved at Port Chalmers as above.
